2nd Virtual Congress of General Practice and Family Medicine
  Dr. Denise Alexandra

   Dear all,

We are less than two months away from the beginning of the Second Virtual Congress of General Practice and Family Medicine. It will be very exciting to have a large number of participants (so far 883) from over sixty countries. Imagine the amount of information and experiences that we will all be able to share. This peer-to-peer communication is exactly the main focus of my message to all of you.

Science is critical to our ability to identify emerging health issues, capitalize on opportunities and minimize the risks posed by products, drugs, tobacco, contaminants and our environments. General Practitioners / Family Doctors worldwide deal with a huge number of patients and have a very significant role in the care of chronic conditions, disease prevention and early diagnosis. Hence I find that primary care is the ideal setting for well designed epidemiological studies. The quality of care to maintain and improve the health of our patientes depends on a strong base of science and research. But we can’t do it alone. To make sure we have the science we need we need to rely on partnerships with a network of national and international colleagues.

The Second Virtual Congress of General Practice and Family Medicine is an excelent means to bring together GPs of diverse backgrounds and offers the opportunity to share high quality studies and research experiences.

Who knows if international research teams don’t emerge and develop from this Congress? We should all seize the opportunity of collaborating and learning from each other.

I hope you find these research possibilities as exciting as I do and enjoy this and every other aspect of the Virtual Congress.

   Spread the word.

VIRTUAL DISTANCE

Today’s modern organizations face different challenges that must master in order to be successful in the global economy we live in. Virtual Distance is an increasingly significant one, and it is often defined as the "psychological distance created between people by an over-reliance on electronic communications". It can exist regardless of whether people are separated by meters, kilometers or continental masses.

When this so-called Virtual Distance rises, there are some staggering effects that must be taken care, such as efficiency, innovation and effectiveness, among others. To prevent this, we need to understand Virtual Distance, what it means, how to measure it, how to map it, and how to manage it.

The Second Virtual Congress of General Practice and Family Medicine is an example of a project developed under the challenge that Virtual Distance stands, as we all live in different regions of the world, but we all are focus on the same objective. Collaborative work plays a very important role on the actual society, and distance should not be an obstacle. The individual and collaborative effort of us all is the key for the success of this project, and it must not stop here.

The world we live in as grown as a Global Village, and defines itself as a Glocality, a common expression used to determine the proximity that unite all the dots of this planet.

Society and technology have evolved in a hallucinating rhythm in the past few years, and it is up to us to catch up and take advantage of them. This amazing group responsible for the organization of the Second Virtual Congress has proved that it is up to overcoming the challenge of making this a glocally event.

We are always improving. Hope you enjoy it!
