Newsletter No. 1 - October 2008
|
Dear colleagues,
Following on from the gratifying experience of the 1st Virtual Congress of GP/Family Medicine, its logical sequel, the 2nd Virtual Congress is now in the pipeline.
After acquiring know-how and reflecting on the criticisms to the 1st congress, we're committed towards improving in every way this particular gathering of Family doctors from all over the world. We've broadened our perspectives by inviting renowned Family doctors from all continents, who have accepted to join forces in order to develop this initiative and make it a successful one, which we're sure it will be. From neighbouring Spain and passing through The Netherlands to Turkey, we entered Asia through Saudi Arabia and India, and finally we diverged into far away Australia, though not neglecting Africa its Egyptian gateway. On the Western front, we found our ports of call in Canada, Argentina, Brazil and the warm islands of the Caribeean. This gave birth to the invaluable International Advisory Board (IAB) of the Congress, from where we draw much of the inspiration, knowledge and ideas. We would like to give our special thanks to the members of the IAB for the motivating energy they brought to the organization of this Congress.
With about a year to go until the congress, we're currently targeting our colleagues who participated in the first congress, as well as all the leading organizations in the field of GP/Family Medicine, through the publication of regular newsletters, where we will be updating you on the latest developments about our congress.
We would be delighted to hear from you, so please feel free to submit your abstracts from 1 January 2009 onwards.
Welcome to the 2nd virtual congress of GP/Family Medicine!

Dear Colleauges,
I welcome all of you.
“So we are not going to travel anymore?” - she asked, when I invited my colleague to the First Virtual Congress of General Practice and Family Medicine last year. A congress taking part at home or work place, no fees, opportunity to read or reply to meetings anytime, even while listening to music. WOW! No more excessive expenses, rushing and trouble. Instead a virtual congress that would provide her with access to the best and the most up-to-date information about almost everything relating to her speciality. Could it be any better than this? All this came true and now we are together again for the Second Virtual Congress of GP/FM with hundreds more doctors from all over the world. Our experience has evolved and matured since then. We have become a rapidly growing great community of The Second Renaissance of medical science, that embraces informatics perfectly for medicine. Success and proud belongs to everyone who has contributed to this pioneer work.
I wish all of you a very innovating, exciting scientific journey through the congress with hopes of news on the foundation of a Virtual Academy of Family Medicine in the near future.
Best Regards.
