Instructions for Abstract Submission
1. General Information
Please bear in mind the following dates:
Open for Abstract Submission – beginning 1 January 2009
Deadline for Abstract Submission – 28 February 2009, GMT 24:00 - 31 March 2009 GMT 24:00 - 30 April 2009, GMT 24:00 (final deadline)
Notification of Acceptance – 24 May 2009
Finalwork Submission - from 15 June until 15 July 2009
All authors must register on the congress. In every contact with the Organizing Committee, the authors must use the email supplied during registration. The first author is the corresponding author, and thus the notification of acceptance or refusal of the submitted abstracts will be sent only to the corresponding author.
In order to see the Abstract Submission form, the author must login, using the link in the upper right corner.
2. Guidelines for Abstract Submission
The Organizing Committee will accept abstracts concerning original online presentations. Abstracts from presentations previously published online will be rejected.
The Organizing Committee will only accept abstracts and finalworks written in english.
The Organizing Committee will accept abstracts for e-oral and e-poster presentations.
Each author can submit a maximum number of one abstract for each scientific category and a total amount of six abstracts. If your abstract is not categorized at one of the six scientific categories of the program, please submit it as a free communication. You can only submit one abstract as a free communication.
Before submitting an abstract, please consider the following aspects:
Title of the Presentation: maximum of 100 characters, written in capital letters.
Authors: Name, Email, Institution
Type of Presentation: e-oral or e-poster presentation
Abstract Body: it should include introduction and objectives, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions; the abstract must not exceed 300 words and the body of the abstract must include text only.
To submit a abstract, log into the Virtual Congress (on top, at the right side of the webpage), click on the menu Scientific Program > Abstracts Submission and follow the instructions.
The corresponding author can edit the abstracts until the deadline.
It is the Scientific Committee which decides the acceptance or rejection of the abstracts. The abstracts will be received by the Organizing Committee, who will send them to the Scientific Committee, and will remove beforehand any author identification or origin.
The abstracts' evaluation is carried out applying the following criteria:
A – Is it relevant to the practice of General Practice and Family Medicine?
The abstract is rejected if considered not relevant.
B – Are the objectives clearly stated?

3 – Good
4 – Excellent
C – Are the used materials and methods appropriate?
1- Insufficient or limited
2 – Sufficient
3 – Good
4 – Excellent
D – Can the results be implemented in the practice of primary care?
1- Insufficient or limited

3 – Good
4 – Excellent
E– Are the conclusions based on the results and consistent with the objectives?
1- Insufficient or limited

F – Is the work innovative (concerning objectives, methods or conclusions)?

The Scientific Committee's decision will be expressed in two possibilities:
- Abstract accepted
- Abstract rejected
The decision will be e-mailed only to the corresponding author, on the day of Notification of Acceptance: 17 May 2009.
Due to the agreement that was settled between the Scientific Committee of the Second Virtual Congress and the Scientific Committee of the 26th National GP Meeting that occurred in Vilamoura, the abstracts accepted for presentation in Vilamoura will be accepted in the Virtual Congress as presented (oral or poster), without further evaluation. Despite this fact, they should respect the Virtual Congress guidelines for abstract submission (e.g. written in english and with a limit of 300 words).
Prizes
The Organizing Committee of the Second Virtual Congress of General Practice and Family Medicine will award a 1000 euros prize to the best presentations, selected by the Scientific Committee, in the following categories:
1 – Best e-Oral Presentation in the Second Virtual Congress of General Practice and Family Medicine
2 - Best e-Poster Presentation in the Second Virtual Congress of General Practice and Family Medicine
If lacking quality, the Jury may decide to not award any of the prizes.
The awarded presentations and authors will be announced on the closing day of the Second Virtual Congress of General Practice and Family Medicine.
